Our organically crafted Shorea Oil, also called Sal Oil, is extracted from the seeds of the Shorea robusta, also known as the Sal Tree, native to the Indian subcontinent. Sal Oil boasts many of the same benefits as Sal Butter because Sal Oil is actually obtained by filtrating (or fractionating) Sal Butter.

The most obvious difference between the Shorea (Sal) Butter and Shorea (Sal) Oil is their texture, as their name suggests: one is butter (solid) and the other oil (liquid). This difference arises because of their different chemical composition, specifically in their Stearic Acid and Palmitic Acid content, which is high in Shorea (Sal) Butter giving it a waxy and thick texture and vice versa. During the filtration process, all of the nourishing actives in Sal (Shorea) Butter are drawn out into a concentrated oil, while the compounds that make the butter solid and waxy are left behind.

REPORTED BENEFITS AND USES

Shorea (Sal) Oil has a smoother, lighter consistency that is easier to work with, without the presence of grittiness or granules typical of its butter counterpart. It is excellent for use in lightweight formulations such as facial oils, lotions, milks, and shampoo, and other cosmetics where the gritty end texture of its butter form is undesirable. It also has a milder aroma and is faster-absorbing, nourishing the skin to leave it soft and supple without leaving a greasy finish.

Sal Oil is believed to have strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that offer protective effects, helping to restore damage or dullness due to exposure to the sun and other environmental stressors. In haircare, Shorea Robusta Seed Oil is known to hydrate dryness, soften the strands, manage frizz, and to repair damage, thus promoting easier manageability. By adding conditioning moisture to the locks and by nourishing the hair, it promotes luster and strengthens it against breakage.
