Well acclimatised to the mountains of of China and Vietnam, the aromatic quality of this precious wood peaks after a tree matures to a height of 80-100 feet. In Vietnam, the wood has traditionally been used for making jewelry boxes and for caskets, both because of its effective natural insect repellent properties and because the Vietnamese belief was that Siam Wood brings eternal life.
